The End

What did you enjoy most about the novel? What did you like the least? I have to admit that I loved Elizabeth's treatment of Lady Catherine. What did you think?

Volume Three Chapters 6-12

Wickham's mess. What did each of you think of The Bennett's reaction to The Wickham Lydia situation? Who is at fault for it?

Volume Three Chapters 1-5

Well there is quite a bit to discuss about these chapters. I think that it is the first time I see Darcy as a complete character. His surprise at seeing Elizabeth at Pemberley is genuine and give him away. I think that he wants Miss Darcy to met her so they are acquainted for reasons of his own devise and hope.

I know Mr and Mrs. Gardiner must have been shocked to realize the connection Elizabeth and Darcey had for one another. Wickham and Lydia's actions are risky to say the least. I was wondering how Darcy might hold all this new information on the Bennetts.

What do all of you think?

Reading Four

Okay, Elizabeth might have been surprised by Darcy meeting her on her daily walks but, I was not as he seemed smitten with her. I am not sure where I picked up on it. Darcy is a hard character to love as every time I think he is a true gentleman, he makes bad decisions that affect others like Jane and Bingley. I was surprised at Darcy's marriage proposal. If they love each other so much how does he just confess to his flaws and leave her to her own life. I was mad at this situation as she could have said something when he gives her the letter. What would you do in this situation? Would you have left or fought? I realize that this is a different era.

I am worried about the life Charlotte Collins will have with Mr. Collins. He seems a little strange. Lydia's behavior in the end of the chapter worries me as to her maturity and how that will effect situations in Brighton. I am not sure she was really ready.

Third reading Revisited.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I know that i have been off doing life for a bit but I am back and would like to back up to the third reading for a bit as I just left it with a like for a show. Thank you for all being understanding. I know this book is like many others some of us love it from beginning to end, but other find that they love the beginning and get stuck in the middle. I can see how all us have this problem from time to time. I hope you will all stick it out with me. One other thing to think about as we beginning to reach the end of this text is that if we want to continue the club, we can. I was initially planning to read all of Jane Austen's books and use this site to do that, but if there is another text that you are all interested in please suggested and we can see if anyone else is interested and read it.

Back to the book:
I was surprised by the letter telling the Bennett's about the Bingley's moving to London. I wondered why so suddenly and my first thought was of Mr Bingley being inappropriate with a young lady. Jane's worry and disappointment is felt by all as we have all been rejected at one point in our lives. Charlotte Lucas puzzles me as I was sure that she would not just accept the first person to come along. I did find that Charlotte was able to exist in Rosings under the watchful eye with Lady Cathrine. I thought the contrasts that existed between Darcy and his cousin the Col Fitzwilliam to be useful in figuring out Darcy from someone else perspective. What did all of you think.

Apologize

Dear All,
I am sorry that I have not uploaded the sections to discuss. This week has been full of running children here and there. Other responsibilities took the front seat while you all took the back seat. I am sorry and hope that you can forgive me. I will get the sections up and running by Tuesday so we can back on track.

Reading for Third Week

Wow! AS a side note I watch a program called Lost in Austen. It is in interesting spin on the story. Check it out at: http://www.itv.com/Drama/perioddrama/LostInAusten/default.html

Second Weeks Reading

Happy Monday to you all! I hope that you have enjoyed what you have read thus far. There has been a new show on BBC called Lost in Austen which is quite good if you want a modern spin on the Pride and Prejudice. As always I don't want to guide you to much in one direction, so your thoughts would be good to hear. I found that Miss Bingley's behavior to be typical of someone whose love is unrequited. She is Jealous of Lizzy's peaking Darcy's curiosity even though it is apparent that he knows Lizzy's station in life it not of equal standing.

Introductions

It was just brought to my attention that I did not ask any of you to introduce yourselves to the others. I know all of you and your know me, but in many cases not each other. So why don't we take a minute to introduce ourselves. You can say how you know me and I roped you in to this adventure.

I am Ann, I created this at the suggestion of one of you. I wont tell till later in the book. I have three beautiful males in my life(don't tell them I said this it would go to their heads). When I am not on holiday in England, I teach English to High School students in rural New York.

I hope you are all enjoying the book and will make more comments on the pages. As soon as I figure out how to have the comments show without clicking to read the I will let you know.

First Section.

Section One's Chapters one through ten should be done. Hope you are enjoying the read. Before we discuss the book, I need to let you know about some administrative things that I have set up. The first is that I have set most of you up to create your own posts. Your should have received an email inviting you to create posts, which is what this is. If you did not receive this email it might be that I don't have your most up to date email address. The other way to participate is to make comments that can be seen by everyone.

I have a few little things I want to say about the first few chapters. The first is that I had to remind myself that Austen wrote this book in a time when many parents were arranging to marry their children into equal or better situations. The concept of the good match was thought provoking. What makes a good match? In Mrs. Bennett eyes it would be a man who is kind, and has means to provide. Also, the idea of which of her daughters to match with the new man in town. Comically enough is Mr. Bennett reluctance to marry off the daughters in a hurry. He lacks interest in the whole activity. I will stop her for now as I want to hear your impressions of the first ten chapters before putting to much out there.

Can't wait to hear from all of you.

Welcome

Welcome to the Book Club. I decided it would be a good fall activity especially, since the weather is bound to turn cold. Books are better when you can discuss them with other anyway.
I have been to Jane Austen's house in Chawton twice this year so I thought she would be a good place to start as I have not read all of her books. In truth I am not sure if I have read any of them. So that is how we arrived at this point. I invite all of you to join the fun.

This will be an informal book club. I will set up a schedule but, use it as a guide not a set in stone thing as I am aware that you all have lives which sometimes require your attention or in some case undivided attention.I hope you all enjoy the book and if you would like to suggest one we can do other books through the year. We can start with Pride and Prejudice available at all libraries near you.
